The Other Don Dixon is a 30+ year veteran of non-commercial and public radio.

My first radio job was at a college radio station where I hosted programs of varying formats. A few years later, I started working at a newly formed public radio station and NPR affiliate and I never looked back. Even though I have a BA in Psychology and an MA in Communication & Theatre, my career has been in public radio since 1991.

Working for both small and large public radio stations, I am very aware of budgets and fiscal responsibility. For public radio stations, I am offering the majority of my recorded material (released and unreleased) for podcasts and music beds on a “pay what you want” model. At the moment, that is 60+ works of music and growing. Similar to public radio model itself, the “pay what you want” model means that you pay anywhere from $0 (seriously) on up. There is an annual licensing agreement you must enter into that allows you to use my material for the calendar year. If any of my licensed material is used as part of a digitally archived program, say for example a podcast, you have a perpetual license for that archived content. One thing that I do ask is that you don’t use this offer as a substitute for work you intended for a working musician and custom compositions. If you budgeted money for a musician for your podcast or program, please fulfill that commitment and do so. I am fortunate to have full-time employment and I do not want to deprive anyone that makes a living through their art. But if you are working with little to no budget, then my offering may be for you.
